Hits: 3

Summarized from Zād al-Ma’ād beginning at page 102 onwards in the first volume (Resalah Publishers print 2007, Beirut, Libanon):

  1. Khadīja radīAllāhu ‘anhā was the only wife that received the Salām from Allāh through the angel Gibrīl ‘alayhi al-salām.
  2. The second mother of the believers is Sawda bint Zam’a and she gifted her day to ‘Ā-isha radiAllāhu ‘anhunna.
  3. Third comes ‘Ā-isha radiAllāhu ‘anhā and she was freed from the accusation from above the seven heavens. In Sahīh al-Bukhārī 3895 it is stated that she was shown twice in a dream of him salAllāhu ‘alayhi wa salam and that somebody said that she is his wife. And she was the only wife that did not marry before. And she was the only wife with a blanket under which the Prophet of Allāh received revelation. She was also the most learned of all the mothers, rather of all women in this Ummah. The aged SSahāba did come to her for fatāwā.
  4. Then Hafsa radiAllāhu ‘anha who became the lady that was divorced and then returned into marriage with the Prophet of Allāh صلى الله عليه وسلم . This can be found in Abu Dawūd 2283.
  5. Then Zaynab bint Khuzayma رضي الله عنها and she died after being with him for two months.
  6. Then he salAllāhu ‘alayhi wa salam married Hind and she was the last of his married women that died. And it is said that it was SSafiyya. On this marriage Imām ibn al-Qayyim mentioned that ibn ‘Aqīl said that it is clear from the words of Ahmad that the Prophet salAllāhu ‘alayhi wa salam does not need a Walī (legal guardian) for the woman to marry with him. And this is from his specificities.
  7. Then Zaynab bint Jahsh and she took pride in the 37th ayah of surat al-Ahzāb that was revealed from above the seven heavens wherein Allāh married her to the Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم without a guardian.
  8. Then Juwayriyyah bint al-Hārith and she was a captive and requested her freedom to the Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم and upon that he married her.
  9. Then he married Ramla bint abi Sufyān and it is said that her name is Hind. He married her while she was emigrated to Ethiopia, and Negus, the ruler, gave her 400 dinār on direction of the Prophet salAllāhu ‘alayhi wa salam. She died in the time of her brother Mu’āwiyyah.

This is what is known and mutawātir with the biographers and historians and that Khadija was wed in Makkah and Hafsa in Madinah and SSafiya after Khaybar[1].
